Hello Kitty Roller Rescue

I bought a game in a pink box! Hurrah! And it’s so cute it makes you want to gouge your eyes out with a fork! BEST! Played for about half an hour, which was long enough to complete the first 4 or 5 missions. Rescued Kitty’s mother, her sister, Purin, a frog thing, and Lala. It’s all very easy so far. And cute. Vomity-cute at that. I’ve even unlocked new costumes for Kitty – a denim one (complete with denim …

Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (Switch): COMPLETED!

And that’s the pair of them. I’d never played this sequel before, but it turned out to be just as good as the first game. There have been a few quality of life tweaks, such as not needing to choose which challenges to do before you do them – now they act more like normal achievements – and some of the upgrades upgrade themselves as you use them, rather than need improved versions synthesising. The gameplay is the same as …

Astral Chain (Switch): COMPLETED!

I always like the idea of Platinum games, with their amazing combat and bonkers stories, but I rarely hold them in the high regard a lot of other people seem to. Bayonetta is a great game, but is it worth the heaps of praise it gets? I’m not sure. The Wonderful 101 was, well, Wonderful, but it was a way from perfect despite the reviews. Astral Chain, though, is really something special. I think, being half “adventure” and half combat …

The Mystery Of Woolley Mountain (Switch): COMPLETED!

I’d never heard of this point-and-click adventure game but it seems it was a Kickstarter project a while back. Looking at the credits, now I’ve finished it, there are a number of high profile backers and a fair few people I know or follow on Twitter, so I’m surprised I’d not seen it mentioned before now. Anyway, the lovely @IndieGamerChick gave me a copy via her IndieSelect initiative earlier in the week so here’s my Contactually Obliged Comments. I mean, …

Dishonoured (PS3): COMPLETED!

That was brilliant. Like, properly good and everything. After last time, I had to rescue Piero and Sokolov, who had become best of chums and created a massive arc pylon between them. I had to get them some bits for it, but once active I wiped out (well, put to sleep) everyone in the area. That was pretty good. Then it was off to some island to rescue Emily. On the way, I had a nice friendly chat with Samuel, …

Rock Boshers DX (Vita): COMPLETED!

You know that thing you do where you completely forget you own a Vita? It’s pretty easy to do, as it is somewhat forgettable. Well, I did that. I was sat wracking my brains, trying to remember which games I’d started fairly recently but not finished, and all I could come up with were a few 3DS and Wii U games. I was convinced there were more than that. And of course there were – I’d forgotten about my Vita. …

Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails (Wii U)

A very nice person out there sent me a copy of this for my birthday, which luckily I received just a couple of hours before I was going to buy it anyway. Phew, eh? A few years ago, probably when I got my free subscription to PS+ for that Sony hacking thing that happened just as I got my PS3, I played a game called “The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character”. You were an octopus that stuck to platforms …

Behold – the NESurrection

Dug out the NES the other week to record some more stuff for Game Over, Yeah!! but it wasn’t working. The PSU was shot, so I bought a new one from consolegoods.co.uk. I was sceptical because the NES needs a 9V AC adapter at 1.3A, and this was a 9V DC at 400mA. I read up a bit about it and it turns out that much of the current is needed to actually convert to DC internally, and in fact, theres …

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP)

Is it me, or did this get “wicked hard” since I last played? I failed twice at the level where you rescue the machinist, and then failed (really, really failed) twice at the level afterwards. I didn’t stand a chance against an archer who could do 50+ damage each go, and a pair of summoners who could do 75+ damage to pretty much my entire party every round. I think I need to go and level up a bit…

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)

Next week on ugvm is Retro Week, and so I was hoping to play this a bit then. Only… I can’t. For two reasons. Firstly, in order to not break the rules of the week, I would have to play either the original Rondo of Blood (rather than the 2.5D remake that makes up the main title in this collection), or Symphony of the Night. Both of which have to be unlocked in the main game. Secondly, the main game …

Eternal Sonata (360)

It’s far too easy to spend lots of time on this without realising. I started early this afternoon, and then suddenly it was dark outside. Chapter 2 was soon over. I had to fight Tuba again on the bridge by the fort, and although I won, he took out the bridge and we all fell to our watery deaths. Well, not quite. The beginning of Chapter 3 showed that my party had been split into two groups. Allegretto, Viola, Jazz, …

Densetsu no Stafi 2 (GBA): COMPLETED!

World 11 was, in fact, the final world. Dark Castle and all! As expected of the final world, many of the levels sort of repeated some of the puzzles and routines of previous levels, although obviously mixed up a bit. Thankfully, there was no SuckySuck(TM) bit either. The end boss, however, did do the usual trick of dying, only to change form and regain all his energy – twice. I wasn’t too bothered though, as each form was very different, …

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS): COMPLETED!

Finished working my way through the airship, and then fought Slival in his tank again at the end. Since he has no crew, he’s really easy – especially if you go over to keep him busy while your crew hammer the tank. After that was Don Clawleone, who was pretty easy to beat, but then he turned into The Dark One, who was a giant dragon tank thing. Erk! Tankfully (oho!), Slival joined forced with me, and we merged our …

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS)

Up to 84 slimes rescued now, and I think I must be nearing the end, as a giant airship has appeared with Don Clawleone on board. Yes, that’s another pun right there. I’m still missing slimes on earlier levels, though, and I can’t find the two on Forewoods anywhere. I’ve searched the entire map, and even defeated the boss and tanks again just in case. Tch. Have fought the first tank on board the airship, which was pretty easy. I …
